Top-Selling Netbooks – Winter 2009

It’s been 18 months since netbooks started selling in large numbers in the UK so we thought we’d take a look at what’s selling now.

Here are the 3 current biggest sellers:

Samsung NC10

nc10

No surprise here – this was one of our early favourites & basically exploded onto the market, beating everything out there in specs without costing a huge amount. Many retailers have recently reduced their prices on the Samsung NC10, so no wonder it’s doing so well right now.

ASUS EEE 1005HA

1005ha

The Asus 1005HA is another beautiful 10" machine. Its spec slightly beats the Samsung NC10, with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor compared to the NC10’s 1.6GHz Atom N270.

Acer Aspire One D150

d150

And yet another 10", 1.66GHz machine with around 7 hours battery life. Acer were a little slower to market with this than Samsung & it doesn’t look as beautiful, but it still does a great job at a fantastic price.

Summary

Amazingly – the top 3 sellers are all essentially the same netbook. A .06GHz difference between the processors, slightly different keyboard layouts and sizes. But the same screen size, same hard drive size, same operating system.

It’s good to see these ‘flagship’ machines selling well, but all have been on the market for a good while now & we suspect it won’t be long before a newer, higher-spec machine breaks straight into the number 1 spot.
