Samsung NC10 – Best Budget Netbook?

samsung nc10

While it’s over a year old now, Samsung’s NC10 is still a massive seller in the netbook market.

Why? The simple answer is it was well ahead of the pack. Even today, some competitors are bringing out new machines with lesser specs and lesser features.

As its price has dropped steadily over the last few months it’s become one of the best bargain netbooks out there. With that in mind, here’s another look at the NC10 and its best features.

1. The 7 Hour Battery

This was huge at the time, when even the tiniest ASUS eee pcs only lasted a few hours. The quoted battery time was 8 hours, but we managed to push this thing to 7 with ease. Perfect for flights, train journeys, or even going away for the weekend and leaving the AC adapter at home.

2. The Keyboard

As with many of Samsung’s new netbooks, the NC10 Netbook is 93% of the size of a standard laptop keyboard. If like me you have a big set of hands, this is a godsend.

3. The Multimedia Package

With a built-in camera, a good set of speakers, and virtually silent running, this is a great machine for anyone wanting to use skype, watch a DVD, or listen to music. On top of that, the screen has a beautiful quality. At 10.1″ the laptop is small enough to carry anywhere, but the screen has a good enough resolution for word processing, web browsing and spreadsheets.

4. The Storage Options

The Samsung NC10 has a built-in 160GB hard drive. Easily large enough for something of this size – especially as most business desktops still ship with around half that capacity.

On top of that there’s a built in SD reader.

On top of that it comes with 3 USB ports. That’s 1 for an external keyboard, one for an external mouse, and one for your portable DVD writer, or a huge external hard drive.

Summary
Taking all that into account, along with a price tag now well under £300, we believe this is about the best budget netbook out there.
