MSI Wind 12 U200
MSI have just released their Wind 12 U200 netbook in the UK. Thankfully the machine itself is way better than the clumsy name: It’s an impressively powerful 12" netbook.
It looks like MSI are aiming the Wind 12 U200 at people who don’t want a laptop AND a netbook, just one machine that’s relatively small with a decent amount of performance.
Here are the main specs:
- Core 2 Duo SU350 Processor (these run at 1.4GHz, but don’t be fooled by the low number – they’re quite powerful)
- 2GB Memory as standard
- 320GB Hard Drive
- 12" display
- 1366 x 768 resolution (for widescreen afficianados that’s 16:9)
- 1.5kg weight
- Quoted 6.5-hour battery life (we’re guessing this means around 5 in practice)
- 1.3mpx webcam
- 3x USB ports
- HDMI slot
- Windows 7
- And of course the usual built-in Wifi & 4-in-1 card reader
The design looks very nice too. It comes with a clever ‘bezel-free’ panel meaning the screen is completely flush right the way across.
The keyboard is a great size: MSI call this ‘ergonomics de-stress’, which translated into english means basically ’slightly bigger keys’.
The casing comes in black or white, both of which look slick and expensive. Which brings us onto the price…
At £399 this isn’t the cheapest netbook going. Nor is it the smallest. Nor is it the lightest. What it is is a great ‘compromise’ machine for people who want a bit more power than your average netbook, and a bit less size & weight than your average laptop.
