Dell Latitude 2100

Ask a consumer at the start of the year ‘which netbook will you be buying?’ and you can guarantee the answer would either be ‘nc10′, ‘nc20′ or an ‘aspire one’.   Only a mad man would come back with the answer ‘the Dell!’.   The  first range of Dell netbooks, whilst incredibly well made and up to spec missed the one crucial selling point of a netbook.  A long Battery life.

But now Dell is back, and they have mended the error in their ways with the release of the Latitude 2100.  It is a rugged 6 hour lasting beauty.  We love it and think you should too, read on for our explanation.

Why the Dell 2100 netbook is really greatdell lattitude 2100 netboo

Here are our reasons why we think going for the Dell netbook is the right choice to make:

Incredible specification
The machine includes the Intel Atom is the N270 alongside 2 gigs of ram.  This is more than enough to cope with multiple web browsers, skype and office software without any fuss.   The LCD screen is a lovely bright and clear 10″ 1024 x 576 resolution, which is no trouble to work on for long periods of time.  We can report the battery this time has a good 6 hour life, perfect for using on long distance travel

Communication
With built-in wireless, webcam and ethernet you’ll be able to surf the internet or check your emails everywhere.  The machine also includes a 3-in-1 card reader so you quickly transfer your camera pictures and other files without any hassle.

Easy secure transportation
Here is where we are really impressed with the Dell system.  The outer case of the Latitude 2100 netbook is made of a very hard rubber.  This not only makes it look great, but secures against knocks and drops.  If you’re buying any other netbook you will definitely need to buy a protective sleeve for it which does make it a little bit more of a hassle to get it out of your bag them take the netbook out of the sleeve.  With this machine you don’t have to worry about it being in our bag and getting the odd knock throughout the day.    The rubber case really makes this the essential netbook  if you’re planning on buying a computer for your children.

Options
Once you’ve decided you need this Dell in your life, there are some great options you can add to the machine, these are:

  • Choice of operating system: Windows XP, Linux or Ubuntu.
  • Touch screen.  This is a fantastic option, actually this shouldn’t be an option, it should be default.  Using a touch screen netbook is such a satisfying experience.  It’s amazing how fast it is to surf the web and navigate through your photo collection using touch screen capability.
  • Solid state hard drive.   Whilst the lattitude 2100 is already the safest netbook on the market, if you really want to feel bullet proof you can opt for a solid state hd.

Finally

Two final reasons to buy this netbook:

1) Because it is a Dell!  Have you ever known anyone have a Dell machine break or die on them?   These machines will literally run forever and take whatever abuse you can throw at them.   The reason for such high quality is that Dell use quality parts for their machines where other brands opt for cheaper alternatives.

2) The cost.  The machines start from £259 which is an absolute bargain.
